Services: Tuesday, June 25, 201311 a.m. Family Visitation â?? 12 p.m. Home Going Celebration @ St. James Baptist Church536 W. Florida Street, Greensboro, NC 27406Reflections: On Thursday, June 20, 2013, God called Ernest to enter into his Kingdom. He gently answered to the call and he ascended to receive His heavenly reward. Ernest has fought the good fight of faith. Ernest was born to the late Albert and Martha Garner Lawson. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on October 5, 1937. He attended Dudley and graduated from Laughlin High School. He worked and retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company, where he served as a Shop Steward and Union Representative. Ernest received Christ as His Lord and Savior. He was a member at St. James Baptist Church. Ernest served in many capacities at St James. He served on the St. James Advisory Board. One of the greatest gifts God gave Ernest was a voice to sing. He used his gift to sing praises unto the Lord. His greatest enjoyment was proudly serving on the St. James Male Chorus. Also, he was the Male Chorus President. He became a Master in operating the sound equipment. He leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories and his life: his devoted wife, Mrs. Kathryn Lawson of 46 years; five daughters that were the beat of his heart, Marsha Lawson, Pamela L. Wray, Verna L. Middlebrooks, Kecia Howard of Maryland, and LaTonya L. Johnson (Karari). One dear sister: Mrs. Bonita G. Staton (John). His precious grand and great grandchildren, Kenyun (Mia), Clarence, Travis, Alicia, Kaleb , Katelyn, Chance, Josiah and Justyce. A special daughter: Roselyn Johnson (James). He leaves an abundance of nieces, nephews and godchildren. He has three sisters in-law: Angelique Witherspoon, Cynthia Graham(Roy) and Danita Terrell (Carl). Special friends for many years who were like brothers, Joseph Briscoe (Roselyn), Charles Posey, Preston Graves, and Joseph Soloman (Myrtle). One special aunt: Mrs. Dorothy Hyde.
