Emmie Jean Goins, known by many as Jean Goins, was the daughter of Addie Pinky Scales Totten and Ruffin Totten, Jr. She was born in Caswell County, NC on April 25, 1928. She departed this life on July 2, 2014. Jean was married to the late Armentious Goins for over sixty (60) years. From their union, three (3) children were born. She attended high school in Elon, NC and Maco Beauty College in Greensboro, NC, with a certification in cosmetology. Jean worked for Vestal Florist and American Can Company. She retired from Lorillard Tobacco Corporation with more than thirty (30) years of service. Jean and her family attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, NC. They later united in fellowship with Providence Baptist Church of Greensboro, NC. Along with her husband, she was a hard and faithful worker, at times working two (2) jobs to provide for and educate her family. She also assisted her husband on projects in his business as a building contractor. She loved gardening, home decorating and interior design. She would plant flowers in front of her home, saying "where there are flowers, there is love." In addition to her parents, husband, and son (Armetrius) she had four (4) sisters, Lucille Finch, Virginia Neal, Katherine Neal, and Australia Shaw; three (3) brothers, John Totten, Reuben Totten and Ruffin Totten, Jr. that preceded her in death. Jean is survived by her son: Ardrian Goins (Niesha) of Greensboro, NC; daughter: Norma Jean Richardson (Alfred) of Chapel Hill, NC; five (5) grandchildren: Kumar, Nadia, Vatage, Akeala, and Alfred, Jr. (Chantel) of Greensboro, NC; brother: Paul Totten (Anita) of Gibsonville, NC; ; sisters-in-law: Allene Currie of West Muffin, PA and Margaret Thomas of Greensboro, NC; a host of nieces, nephews cousins, relatives and friends. Jean was truly a blessed woman.
