Elizabeth Barnes Smith was born May 21, 1909 in Wilson, North Carolina. She was the daughter of late Lehman and Elizabeth Barnes of Wilson, North Carolina. She departed this life at the age of 105, Monday, January 26, 2015 at Wesley Long hospital. She was the middle child of three sisters and one brother, who all preceded her in death. She married Lewis N. B. Smith of Mountain Creek, Alabama, on September 7, 1926. To this union five children were born, three of whom lived, they are Louis N. Smith, (D'Arlene) of Los Angles, California, Doris Thompson, (John, deceased) of Detroit, Michigan, Milton Smith (Ruby) of Greensboro, North Carolina, and adopted son Reginald, who preceded her in death. Some of her enjoyments were playing the piano as she worked in the ministry with her husband Elder Smith for over fifty years for the South Atlantic Conference. Many souls were baptized and became "Believers" in the Lord Jesus Christ through her husband's ministry. She was a member of East Market Street church since 1940. Sister Smith enjoyed playing the piano, reading, ingathering, traveling and caring for her family, who was the center of her attention. She liked her family to call "Mother Dear". Those left to cherish her memory are eldest son Louis, Los Angeles, daughter Doris, Detroit Michigan, and youngest son Milton of Greensboro, N C., four (4) grandchildren; Lavern Hall, Karen Brown, Heather Smith, and Michael Smith; seven (7) great grandchildren who are; Tricia Hall-Smith, Tiffini Hall, Andre' Brown, Cortney David, Jordan Smith, Hailey Smith, and Imani Teague; Also, four (4) Great great grandchildren; Tyree Phelps, Conner Brown, Cody Brown, and Kennedi Jefferson; cousins; Elise Toombs, Ruby Jenkins, and Ted Jenkins; nieces, Jocelyn Richardson, and Carolyn B. Kent, and a host of other relatives, family and friends.
