Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Mays, 83, returned to her heavenly home on September 09, 2018. Her commitment to her family and her firm belief in God supported her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Elizabeth was born to the late David Stewart and Betsy Davis in Fernandina, FL on November 11, 1934. She gratefully provided for anyone in need no matter the circumstances, whether a phone call away or to share the smallest things, such as a piece of Doublemint gum or a peppermint. 'To keep her mind going' as she would say, she washed clothes, cleaned up and babysat family members children. Lastly, she enjoyed going outside with the comforts of crossword puzzles, coloring books, and listening to oldies. Elizabeth was blessed with a large and loving family. She married the love of her life, Claude Mays, who preceded her. Together they raised 6 children: Johnny Smith, Lauritha Smith, Beverlyann Stewart, Mashell Stewart, and Claudia Mays. Lizzie later was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren with 1 deceased and 1 on the way. Lizzie is survived by her sisters: Betty Davis, Claravll Y. Wilson, Louise Williams, Loretta Scott; her brothers Clarence Davis and Willie C. Davis. She was preceded by her sister Diane Davis and her brothers Kenneth Davis, Junior Davis, Willie James Williams, and Leonard Stewart.

A service honoring her life will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E Market St. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 3 pm and the service will follow at 3:30 pm.
