Eliza Aldrich Belle-Dixon of Greensboro, North Carolina was born on October 8, 1923 in McBee, South Carolina and moved to Greensboro, NC in 1939.  Eliza peacefully transitioned from this life to a heavenly reward on April 4, 2017 at Moses Cone Health Hospital after a lengthy illness. Eliza received her early childhood education in the public schools of McBee, SC and graduated from Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC in 1943.  She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Bennett College (Greensboro, NC) in 1951 and a Masterâ??s of Science Degree in Rural Education from North Carolina A & T College (currently North Carolina A & T State University) in 1957.  Based on her college education, it is easy to see that Eliza had a plan in mind for her future. Because of a strong desire for service, combined with the education she pursued, Eliza dedicated her life to the education of children.  To this end, in the early years of her career, she taught Elementary Education in public schools in Darlington, SC.  In later years she taught at Bluford Elementary School, and David D. Jones Elementary School (where she spent the majority of her time) in Greensboro, NC.  After a very long and rewarding career as a teacher, she retired from the school system in 1984.  Countless students were touched by Elizaâ??s dedication and service as a teacher.  In fact, Eliza was interviewed by the Greensboro News & Record (May 1, 1984, page 5), and noted that she had taught for more than 30 years and was â??now teaching the children of parents who were once her studentsâ??.   The school Principal acknowledged that Eliza was a â??Master Teacherâ?? and that she had been nominated for the Governorâ??s Award for Excellence in Teaching. After joining St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church, Greensboro, NC in the 1950â??s, Eliza became a regular, faithful and devoted member.  For more than 60 years, she participated on numerous committees, and work groups in support of the activities of the Church.   This included supervising playground activities and assisting with the Church School and Brownie Scout Troop.  She also served as the Parrish Council Secretary for two years.  As a special ministry, she found great joy in sending Birthday and Condolence Cards as well as Thank You Notes on behalf of the Church to members and friends until her declining health would not allow her to continue. Because of her natural and inherent organizational skills, Eliza was extremely instrumental in ensuring that Aldrich Family Reunions were held, and she hosted a key reunion in 1984 in Greensboro, NC with her sister Sallie Mae Roberson.  Relatives came from all over the country and it set the standard for future family reunions.  Eliza encouraged and supported other reunions that were held in California, Washington, DC and again in North Carolina in later years by other family members.  She was a strong believer in knowing your roots and keeping in touch with relatives and extended family members. One of Elizaâ??s passions and favorite pastimes was her regular bowling league participation.  She had been an avid life-long bowler, but she increased her time and fun upon retirement from her teaching career.  Rumor has it, that she actually met her second husband, Mr. John E. Dixon during one of her many bowling outings.  Because of a strong sense of civic responsibility and community service, Eliza remained an active member of Beta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Retired Teachers Association until health issues prevented her continued participation. Eliza was the seventh of ten children born to the late James Aldrich, Sr. and Sallie Pate Aldrich in McBee, South Carolina.  She was the last of the ten siblings, and was preceded in death by (brothers); James Aldrich II, John Wesley Aldrich, Zachariah Aldrich, Isaiah Aldrich, and William S. Aldrich; (sisters); Mary A. Pollard, Sallie Mae Roberson, Martha Lee Aldrich, and Henrietta Aldrich.  She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Robert P. Belle Sr. (25 years) and John E. Dixon (9 years). Memories of Eliza will be forever cherished by her beloved children, (daughters) Barbara B. Jones, and Peggie E. Parks (Emmitt); and (son) Robert P. Belle II; treasured grandchildren: Angela M. Osborne (Ricardo), Jeremy C. Jones (Sheila), Stephanie L. Parks, and Arielle Howard.  Eliza is also survived by three very special great-grandchildren: Tyler S. Harris, Taylor B. Harris, and Miles E. Jones, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A service honoring her life will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church; 812 Duke Street, Greensboro, NC 27401on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Guilford Memorial Park; 6000 West Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC 27407.
