Obituary

All things come home at eventide and so it was with our loved one Eli Wright on Friday morning, January 24, 2020. Eli peacefully made his transition into Life Everlasting and Christian victory was declared. Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend was born on November 2, 1930 to the late Odesser and Mary Ann Wright in Chester, South Carolina. Eli attended school in Chester County, South Carolina and worked on the family farm before enlisting in the United States Army on December 18, 1952. Notably, he increased his age from 17 years old to 18 years old to serve his country and for a better way of life. PFC Eli Wright was a proud United States Army Veteran and served during the Korean War. He completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and his Advance Individual Training as an Indirect Fire Infantryman at Fort Rucker, Alabama. During the Korean War he served with distinction while assigned to the Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry Regiment. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1958. PFC Wright's awards and decorations include: the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge for his Distinguished service to the US Army and the United States. He was employed at Budget Concrete Company for 20 years while having his own business, Wright's Remodeling Company for 10 years, until he retired. Eli was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 40 years until his health declined. He was a man with a strong constitution, but an even stronger faith. He stuck to his values and embraced life with wisdom and compassion for helping humanity. Eli was a Master Mason of Morning Star Lodge #691. He was the eighth child born of eleven siblings and was preceded in death by one daughter, Jessie Mae Simpson, five sisters, and three brothers. Surviving relatives to cherish his legacy and life include: two daughters, Stella Stancil, Suitland, MD., Jaqueline Wright Dillard (Richard), Garland, TX.; five sons, Willie Wright, Rock Hill, SC, Eli Anthony Smith (Kathy) Spring Lake, NC, DeKelvin Lamonte Wright, Greensboro, NC, Telly S. A service honoring his life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church; 408 MLK Jr. Dr., Greensboro, NC. Visitation will be at 11:30am with service following at 12pm. Internment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
