Mrs. Dorothy Woodson passed away on October 25,2021.
Dorothy Gene Woodson was born on September 9th, 1934 in Hickory, North Carolina. She was the fourth and youngest child of the late Cleotus & Ruth Gabriel. Dorothy departed this dear life on October 25th, 2021 at home surrounded by family.
Dorothy attended Mooresville Teachers College for 2 years. Upon completing her education, she moved to New York City then to New Jersey where she lived for 51 years. During her time in New Jersey, she worked for over 30 years as a Quality Assurance Inspector with Owens-Brockway (OI-Group) the largest manufacturer of glass containers in North America, South America, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Dorothy served as the secretary, treasurer and was the life of the party with her local union until her retirement in 1997. She continued her employment journey with the Franklin Township Board of Education as an Administrative Clerk for the District Superintendent in Somerset, New Jersey. In 2006, she relocated with family to North Carolina.
During her time in North Carolina, she was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church located in Greensboro, NC. She loved taking trips, shopping at one of her favorite stores (Roses), spending time with her loving family and occasionally enjoying a sweet treat from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
She is predeceased by her brother and sisters- Edward Gabriel, Mary Eisbey and Betty Rose Lee, husband- Garfield Woodson, son- Melvin Welch, grand-daughter- Erica Presley and great-grandson-Karriem "Eric" Jenkins.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, Sons- Arthur Woodson (Aisha) of Somerset, New Jersey, Garfield Woodson Jr. of Morris, GA, Daughters- Patricia McCound of Charlotte, NC, Marie Menyweathers of Greensboro, NC,Gaye Stevens of Greensboro, NC, Darcel Woodson-Williams (Freddie) of Saginaw, Michigan, Debra Welch of Manor, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and close friends.
A service honoring her life will be held in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home on Nov. 1, 2021. The visitation begins at 11:00 am. and the service will begin at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
