Obituary

After an extended illness, Dorothy (Dot) Coley, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.  She was born on April 9, 1945 to the late Oleffus Lee and Margaret McNair Edens in Hamlet, North Carolina.  She was the fourth of five children born to the Edens union.Â

Dorothy was educated in the public schools of Hamlet, NC. After graduating from Monroe Avenue High School, Dorothy attended Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill, SC. After completing her Associate Degree in Business Education at Friendship Junior College, Dorothy continued her studies at Allen University in Columbia, SC where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education.  She taught Business Education in the public school system of Laurel Hill, NC. After leaving the teaching profession, she enjoyed working in banking finance at BB&T, Gate City Federal, Bank of America and Charter Behavioral Health.

    She attended St. Peterâ??s United Methodist Church in Hamlet, NC. After moving to Greensboro, NC, she joined Saint Matthews United Methodist Church where she remained a faithful and active member until her health prohibited her from attending church.

Dorothy Coley: mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, neighbor, and veteran child of God â?? You will always be remembered in the hearts of your loving sons, Cedric Coley, of Greensboro, NC and Chadric Coley, of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Micaiah, Regan, Jaâ??Quan, and Darshaun; brother, Lee G. (Conchita) Edens, of Columbia, SC; sisters, Margaret (Andrew) Hairston, of Martinsville, VA, Lillie Pratt, (Edward) of Belleville, NJ and Helen (Nathaniel) Stevenson, of Columbia, SC.  Also, to cherish her memories are an uncle, John  (Janet) Edens of Gardena, CA, and an aunt, Edna Flowers Edens, of Middletown, CT; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
