Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy M. Baker, daughter of Selma Baker and Neal McArthur was born May 11, 1935 in Robeson County, NC. She was the youngest of 14 siblings. She departed this life on Sunday, January 15, 2017. At an early age, Dorothy joined the Beluah Spot Methodist Church in Rowland, NC and served faithfully in many capacities. She was united in holy matrimony with James Raymond Baker April 12, 1953 in Dillon, SC.  Dorothy and her family moved to Greensboro in 1966.  She joined Shiloh Baptist Church and became active with the Missionaries, the Ushers ministry, the Fred Huntley Choir, the Senior Choir and the Deaconess Ministry. Dorothy was preceded in death by twelve siblings, her husband: James Raymond Baker Sr: a son: Howard Baker and a daughter: Darlene Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, James, Jr and John Baker , one daughter, Selma Peterson all of Greensboro, one sister, Geneva McArthur of High Point, NC one daughter-in-law, Deborah Baker, New York City; one son in-law, Larry Brooks; Six grand children :Antoine Brooks (Tonya), Stacy Boyd, Seth Peterson, Dequan Harris (Angela), James Baker. II(Melissa) and Preston Graves, six great grandchildren; special friends, Annie O. Neal and Betty Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends. A service honoring her life will take place at Shiloh Baptist Church;1210 S Eugene St, Greensboro, NC 27406 on Friday January 20, 2017. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm.  The interment will be held following the service at Proximity Mills Cemetery;2000 Phillips Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405.
