Doris was born in Guilford County on March 17, 1934 to the late James Ellis and Cleo Gisentaner. She attended James B. Dudley High School and graduated in the class of 1951. Doris joined New Light Missionary Baptist Church as a young lady under the leadership of Reverend Shelton G. Griffies. She was a member of the Missionary Circle, the Willing Workers, and Food Committee where she helped prepare many delicious meals. In 1975, forty years ago, when Reverend Dr. Cardes H. Brown, Jr. was called to Pastor New Light, Doris often talked about the love and care he gave and showed his members. She loved Reverend Brown and her church, and appreciated the fact that member or not, you could consult him with any problem and receive spiritual and practical advice. Doris also loved to study the Bible. She was a faithful member of the Wednesday mid-day Bible Study and Leviticus Sunday School class. For many years Doris worked at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. After retirement Doris enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading her Sunday paper...in that order! Each day, until her health began to fail, she attended the Tolbert Senior Center at New Light were she enjoyed the fellowship of her friends and peers. Doris was preceded in death by her son, Michael L. Davis. She is survived by four daughters, Paul D. Davis of Greensboro, NC, Linda Johnson (Otto) of Philadelphia, PA, Wanda Cobb and Cynthia Faye Davis, both of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Brenda Gisentaner and one brother, Fred Gisentaner, both of Akron, OH; five grandchildren, Kalietta, Nova, Anisha, Otto, Jr. and Jetta; three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
