Obituary

Donald S. Denny Sr., of High Point, NC peacefully departed this life surrounded by love and cherished memories after a courageous and unwavering battle with Stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. Throughout his illness, Donald remained a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated family man, and loyal friend whose kindness, wisdom, and strength touched the lives of many.

Donald was born in Washington D.C. to Raymond Denny and Julia Parker Denny on September 23, 1947, the youngest of 15 children. He spent his early years in Falls Church, VA before moving to East Orange, NJ following the passing of his father. While living in New Jersey, he graduated from East Orange High School. After high school, Donald worked for General Motors until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1969, where he faithfully served during the Vietnam War until 1970.

Shortly after his military service, Donald met the love of his life, Phyllis, and through their union they built a beautiful life grounded in faith, love, and devotion to family. Beginning in his early years and throughout much of his life, Donald was an avid bowler who enjoyed both the camaraderie and competition the sport provided. For more than 40 years, he worked as a truck driver, a career that led him to become a licensed owner-operator and self-employed driver before retiring in 2011. He was also a faithful member of Temple Memorial Baptist Church, where he diligently served on the Usher Board until his illness and on the Deacon Board until his resignation.

Born with a caring spirit and a generous heart, Donald dedicated his life to loving and supporting his family. He was known for his warm smile, sense of humor, and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, or offering encouragement, he made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Donald leaves behind a legacy of love and treasured memories that will continue to live on through his family and friends. He shared 53 years of wedded bliss with his beloved wife, Phyllis Denny, née Boyd. Their marriage was blessed with three cherished children: Enetria of Greensboro, NC, Kentria of High Point, NC and Donald Jr. (LaDawn) of Charlotte, NC.

Forever cherishing his life and memory are his loving wife, Phyllis Denny, of the home; his children, Enetria, Kentria, and Donald and daughter-in-love, LaDawn; and his five adored grandchildren: Rekiyah, Dillan, Reese, Denver, and Ryan.

He is also survived by two sisters, Laurine (George Henderson) and Patricia Drayton. As well as a loving circle of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Julia Denny; 12 siblings; and his beloved in-laws, his “mother-in-love,” Earline Boyd, and “father-in-love,” Reuben J. Boyd, Sr.

He also leaves cherished godchildren: Reginald, Allen & Jonathan Ingram, Kristin Boyd, Jana Gibson, Sierra and Monty Brown and honorary godson Joshua Wilkes.

Though he will be deeply missed, Donald’s life, love, and influence will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him
