Dawn Elizabeth Harris-Smith was born October 21, 1950 to Willie and Beatrice Harris. Dawn was educated in the Guilford County School System. For many years she was employed in the textile industry and after many years of service began to be an awesome caregiver. She was a devoted member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Usher Ministry and the Deaconess Ministry. Dawn was an activist in her community by also working as a judge at the voting polls. Dawn was woman of great character and didn't mind giving you advice whether it was wanted or unwanted. Dawn is survived by her 5 loving children whom she adored; Blondzella Harris, Sean Harris, Anthony Harris, Anthonia Harris (Shakira), and Tavis Smith; two step sons John Smith (Cathy) and Carl Smith. She also has nine amazing grandchildren; Stefani Crisp, Shameka Sanders (Leroy Jr.) Matthew Myers, Donavan Griffith, Tyreek Jones, Demonte Harris, Jeremy Harris, Sidney Smith and Skye Smith; four marvelous great grand boys Daijon, Leroy III, Norman IV, and Naziir; four brothers Willie Harris (Sheila), Smauel Harris, John Harris (Jennifer), Timothy Harris and one sister Barber Fleming. Dawn is also survived by special friends Patricia Chalmers and Serry Jefferies. She is preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband Charles Smith, and her beloved great granddaughter Superstar Serenity Sanders. After fighting a great fight with declining health, Dawn made her transition into eternal peace surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on June 25, 2014. The family would like to thank the staff of Duke University Heart Center that provided excellent care for Dawn. The nurses and staff became close friends. A special Thank You goes to Dr. Laura Blue for all of her acts in the treatment of our loved one.
