Obituary

Dan Edward DuBose Jr.(affectionately known as Dan Jr.), was the first born to the union of Dan Sr. and Ella Mae Foster-Dubose August 2, 1934 in Blackstock, S.C. He celebrated his birthday August 12th. He transitioned from this life on January21, 2018 at Beacon Place facility in Greensboro, N.C. He was the oldest of twelve (12). Growing up on a small farm, he was introduced to hard work at an early age. Knowing the value of hard work, learned from both parents he developed a strong character and great work ethics that sustained him throughout his life. Dan Jr. first remembered living in Baltimore, MD as a young child with his parents and siblings, where his father was employed at Sparrows Point-Bethlehem Steel Mill. The family moved back to South Carolina where he began school. His father always instilled in Dan Jr the importance of education. In turn, he demonstrated the same emphases to his siblingâ??s as a role model. After his father obtained a position on the Southern Railroad among the prominent Pullman Porters as the Head Chef, Dan Jr. played a major role as man of the house while his father traveled up and down the east coast until his medical retirement. In addition to his commitment to his family, Dan Jr. loved his Pine Grove Baptist Church family where he served on the Usher Board. His personality was such that he was admired and loved by many whenever and wherever He served. As a young Christian man he ventured out on faith at the age of 20 and followed older relatives to Greensboro, N.C. around 1954. He worked many jobs in various positions to support and sustain his family such as construction, chef, and salesman. After his fatherâ??s passing in1957, Dan Jr. strived more earnestly to grow an income that helped support many people in his family. His mother passed in 1984. Ultimately, Dan Jr. worked for Dudley Beauty Products Company for over 45 years, beginning as a traveling and door-to-door salesman also while training many others. He worked later as a compounder /chemical mixer in both the Chicago, IL (1977-1984) and Kernersville, NC (1984-2003) factories until he retired. Dan Jr .helped Dudleyâ??s in their successful efforts to become a multi - million dollar company while making friends there for life. Dan Jr. was a soft-spoken, caring and loving man from humble beginnings who did what he could to help family and friends. He loved his children and grandkids as his legacy. Fortunately, he lived to see all of his children and step children find their way in life and become successful in their various careers. Dan Jr. never forgot where he came from and returned home to Chester often. His hobbies were: gardening, hunting, fishing, cooking, watching TV sports, traveling to see family members, photography and communicating over the telephone with loved ones. Dan Jr.is preceded in death by his parents: Dan Sr. and Ella Mae; his brothers : James Perry, Paul, Willie, George (aka Pop), Jim, Roosevelt McDaniel, and William Hall. He is survived by wife, Mary Lee Clyburn-DuBose and children: Claudette DuBose-Walker(Children: Jasmine, Jalen, Jarret, and Gemyla Lester), Dan DuBose III; Johnny Ray and Bobby Ray Clyburn. Also he is survived by his first wife, Dora Robinson-DuBose and their children; Jonathan DuBose, Danielle DuBose, David DuBose (Dauter: Brielle DuBose-Beazer), Victoria DuBose (Son: Brian), and Nicholas DuBose; brothers: Charlie DuBose (Pat), Melvin DuBose (Ann); sisters: Elizabeth Griggs (*Elijah), Joyce Hayes (*Joseph), Lottie McCullough (Ulysses), Sally DuBose, Rose Davis (Joe Lee), Rosalie (aka Snoot) Foster-Thompson, Sallie Hall-Ford, Bertha Hall-McDaniel, and Diana Hyman-RaMaan; sister in laws: Dorothy Page-DuBose (*Willie), Doreatha Green-Perry (*James),and Alma Silvers (*Paul); eleven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A service honoring his life will be held at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church; 408 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive Greensboro North Carolina, 27406 on Saturday, February 3, 2018. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00pm. The interment will take place on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Chester, South Carolina.
