Obituary

Daisy Cummings Scott was born in Sedalia, North Carolina to the late Addie McMaster and Ernest Cummings. The third daughter of eight girls, she received her elementary education at Palmer Memorial Institute (Founded by Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown) and Sedalia High School. Her early career interest was nursing. As a young woman, she met and married John E. Scott. To this union two sons were born, Geoffrey Andre and Adisson Alfonso Scott. She worked at Moses Cone Hospital fourteen and one-half years in the Central Supply Department becoming one of the first black females in a supervisory position. After moving to Charlotte due to her husband's job transfer, she was immediately hired by Presbyterian Hospital and was eventually promoted to Manager of Materials Management, supervising thirty-three people on three shifts. Daisy was a member of the American Hospital Association and the North Carolina Association for Hospital Service Personnel. She retired after 21 years of service. While in Charlotte, Daisy and John joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Clifford A. Jones, Sr. was and continues to be the pastor. While a member of Friendship, she served in several capacities including Women's Day Chair Person, New Members Welcome Committee and Chair Person for ten years of the Deaconess Board. She was elected to the position of First Vice President of the Women's Missionary Society shortly before leaving Charlotte. Daisy loved God, her family and her church. She also loved flowers! While health allowed, beautiful flowers were always at her house. In October 1988, Daisy moved back to Greensboro. Shortly after her return, she and John joined Providence Baptist Church. She was a member of the Deaconess Board, Alert Circle, Julia Hyatt Circle, Sunday School Class #1, Monday Fellowship and New Member Greeters.
