Services:Tuesday, July 9, 201312:30 p.m.Hayes Memorial United Holy Church1515 Willow Road, Greensboro, North Carolina ReflectionsOn July 4, 2013, just as a new day was beginning, the Lord dispatched an angel to the bedside of Crystal Diane Brooks Campbell. The angel whispered to her in a voice unheard by the human ear that it was time to come home and dwell in her heavenly mansion with our eternal Father. After eight years of physical struggles, it was now time for her healing to be complete and put on her new body. There are no words that express how much Crystalâ??s family and friends will miss her. She certainly was a rare jewel. Though we all will miss her effervescent smile, we understand that God in His infinite wisdom knew what was best for her.On January 14, 1970, the Lord blessed Deacon Lee F. Brooks and the late Elder Bessie L. Brooks with their fifth child; Crystal Diane Brooks was born in Greensboro, North Carolina (the baby of the family and daddyâ??s little baby). As a child Crystal attended the Guilford County Public Schools. One of her favorite elementary teachers was Mrs. Louise McKesson, who eventually became a wonderful family friend. Crystal graduated from James B. Dudley Senior High School on 1989. She furthered her education at Guilford Technical Community College, where she became a licensed cosmetologist. Crystal worked under the owner/operator, Mary Hector, at Aliciaâ??s Beauty Salon as a stylist for approximately a year. She then entered into the Guilford County Public School system where she worked as a teacher assistant for 13 years. Crystal entered into holy matrimony to Donavan Lee Campbell on February 14, 1998 at Hayes Memorial United Holy Church. Together they lived in Goldsboro, North Carolina on Seymour Johnson Air Force base during Donavan's service in the United States Air Force. Upon Donavan's retirement, Crystal and her husband then moved back home to Greensboro, North Carolina. Crystal was born and raised as a member of Hayes Memorial United Church. Here Crystal accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. As an active member of Hayes Memorial, she began to spiritually grow and developed a personally relationship with Christ. Crystal was a member of the H. W. Fields Celestial Choir, and a teacher for Vacation Bible. She was a faithful and dedicated member to the entire church. Just like her mother, the late Elder Bessie L. Brooks; Crystal carried a strong gift of hospitality which was evident when she was planning family holiday gatherings and while she was preparing many of her tasty treats (especially her Lemon Pound Cakes, Turnips Green and her own famous special blend pasta salad). The family often made a special request for Crystal to make her amazing lemonade. She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted husband of 15 years, Donavan Lee Campbell; her father Deacon Lee F. Brooks, three brothers, Avery Brooks (Gwen) of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Reginald Brooks (Angela) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Darryle Brooks (Melody) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and one sister; Cynthia Cobb (Robert) of Greensboro; father and mother-in-law Othneil (Stump) and Donzella Hairston; Godparents James and Loredia Byers; special aunt and uncle Harry & Ann Emerson, Reverend James & Minister Belinda Maynard; Best Friend Italy Henderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.
