Rev. Colin Wayne Boydston was born to the late Evelyn Mae Alexander at Meadowbrook Hospital (now Nassau University Medical Center) in East Meadow, NY on October 12, 1955. God called him to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 15, 2020.
He was educated in the Westbury (NY) school system and graduated from Westbury High School. Rev. Boydston had a desire to serve the community—even at a young age. He was admitted into Old Westbury University majoring in Mortuary Science.
Rev. Boydston accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior under the strong leadership and influence of his late grandmother, the late Pastor Rosetta Alexander of Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Westbury (Long Island), NY where he was baptized and became a member. He was eventually called to ministry under the late Lemuel Smith of Mt. Carmel Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Jamaica (Queens), NY. He was later ordained at the Faith Memorial Baptist Church in The Bronx, NY. In 2014, Rev. Boydston joined Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, Inc.
Rev. Boydston was employed in the New York City Public Schools system as a teacher's assistant for children with disabilities. After 10 faithful years, he eventually transitioned to the Commonwealth of Virginia (Fairfax County) where he served the school system working with children with disabilities until 2008.
With his passion and love for singing—and his anointed style of playing the piano and Hammond B3 organ—he mirrored his God-given talents with the likes of legendary artists James Cleveland and Richard Smallwood. In college, he worked closely with music professors and sung in school choruses like the Mt. Carmel Youth Ensemble, Canaan Baptist Church (Queens, NY), Mount Calvary Baptist Church (Alexandria, VA) and Mt. Jezerel Baptist Church (Alexandria, VA). God truly used his talents and works to touch the lives of many. This also included, but not limited to: leading revivals in the Northeast and Southeast US and ministering to those at nursing homes.
Like a dove looking for a mate, Rev. Boydston was united in holy matrimony to Elizabeth Johnson on January 4, 1976. Throughout many churches in NY and VA, they were dubbed "The Dynamic Duo" From this union, Rev. and Mrs. Boydston had a daughter, Tenekia Boydston (Tucker). In November 2019, he rejoined Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, Inc. to be with his wife, daughter and son-in-law (Bryant Tucker).
He leaves behind his wife (Rev. Elizabeth Boydston), daughter Tenekia Tucker (Bryant), grandson Antonio Tracy (Rachel), great grands Antonio, Jr. and Natalye Rose Tracy, brother Kim Alexander (Marta) and six (6) sisters Regina Garcia (Gilbert), Maria Collins (Thomas), Darlene Johnson (Reginald), Naima Doles (Emanuel), Aisha Alexander-Stalling (Torrence) and Fatima Alexander. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family.
A public viewing will be held in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 3pm-6pm. A private service honoring his life will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020.
