Obituary

Deacon Cleophus "Cleo" Sutton Life, a physical destined journey with a beginning called birth and an intermediate transition called death, is a scenario created and given by our Creator. The Psalms defines its breath as threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they are fourscore years. Deacon Sutton was born on May 25, 1947 to the late Grady Sutton, Sr. and Prevella Newsome Sutton in Wilson County, NC. Cleo was a graduate of Springfield High School in Wilson, NC. He furthered his education by attending Guilford Technical Community College and the Jan Secor Real Estate School where he became a Broker in Charge. Destined by God, Deacon Sutton was blessed to cross the path of Linda J. Hayes and was later united in marriage on July 26, 1980. Together they had two children: Juan (Opherral) J. Sutton and Dr. Karey M. Sutton and one granddaughter, Alyssa J. Sutton. Saved and sanctified while just a young boy, Cleo joined First Missionary Baptist Church of Lucama. Growing up, he found great joy in singing with his father and brothers in the gospel group the Jordan Keys. Throughout life, Cleo continued after his retirement from Toyota. Even during his illness, he became a licensed insurance agent and continued helping others find vehicles and secure insurance policies. Many residents of Greensboro and beyond know of Cleo because of his work as a salesman at Rice Toyota. His work at Rice's spanned for over thirty, where he was the top salesman for twenty-nine years. His desire to serve and help others continued after his retirement from Toyota. Even during his illness, he became a licensed insurance agent and continued helping others find vehicles and secure insurance policies. Deacon Sutton continually expressed the importance of family. Thus, he leaves to cherish his memory, and anticipate our glorious reunion according to 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, his loving wife, Linda H. Sutton, of Greensboro; two children, Juan J. (Opherral) Sutton of Summerfield and Dr. Karey M. Sutton, of Washington, DC; one granddaughter, Aalyssa J. Sutton; five sisters and six brothers, Grady (Thelma) Sutton Jr., Olivia Carter, Jimmie (Mamie) Sutton, Grace (Clayton) Loyd, Helen Hines, Willie Gray (Shirleen) Sutton, Joseph (Bernice) Sutton, Margaret (Billy) King, Elijah (Yvette) Sutton, Ann Sutton, and Willie "Randy" (Paulette) Sutton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cleo's love for his family and friends permeated his words and actions. His positive spirit, faith in God, and love for others was truly remarkable. As we remember the man that we all loved so much, let us not forget the words of Deacon Sutton: "Regardless of your current circumstance, every day that you wake up is a GREAT day!"
