Wallace was born May 27, 1924 to the late Peter and Classie Hamlet Wallace. He was an only child. The Wallace Family moved to Greensboro with their son when he was three months old. Shortly after arriving in Greensboro, they became members of Providence Baptist Church. Charles was a product of the Greensboro Public School System, attending Washington Street Elementary and James B. Dudley Senior High School where he was an outstanding academic student graduating with honors. Upon graduating from Dudley High School he attended North Carolina A&T College now A&T State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry. Subsequently, he received his Master of Arts degree in administration for North Carolina A&T. Charles met his sweetheart, Callie Williams on a blind date and they were joined in holy matrimony on August 27, 1957. This union produced four children: twin daughters: Patricia and Pamela, a son: Charles, Jr. and a daughter: Felicia.Charles was a professional educator. His first teaching position was in Sumter, South Carolina and he taught in Burgaw, North Carolina. He also taught at James B. Dudley Senior High School where he became chair of the science department. He served as an assistant principal at Gillespie Park Junior High and Page Senior High for several years. His tenure as a principal began at Gillespie in 1973 and ended at Mendenhall Middle School in 1991 after serving there for fifteen years.Because of his love and dedication to excellence for education, Charles was surprised with "CC Wallace Day" while at Mendenhall in November, 1986. Additionally, he received the "Administrator of the Year" award from the North Carolina School Counselors Association. In 1985 he received the North Carolina Schools Counselors Award for "Advocate of the Year." In 1991 the Greensboro North Carolina Association of Educators awarded him the "Wachovia Principal of the Year." The aforementioned are just an abridged number of the many awards, accolades and certificates of merit he has received over the years. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Professional Organization and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Charles not only was a beloved husband and a loving father to his children, but he was a father figure and role model for many children in his community. He was unpretentious and loved to travel with his wife all around the world; all she had to do was pack her bags and they were ready to go. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of fifty-four (54) years Callie W. Wallace; daughters: Patricia Wallace- Burke (Edmund) of Los Angeles, California, Pamela Wallace of Greensboro, Charles Wallace, Jr. of Los Angeles, California and Felicia Wallace of Greensboro; grandchildren: Chanel Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia and Jalen Williams of Greensboro; a special cousin: Paul Canada of Lynchburg, Virginia; goddaughter: Jackie Newkirk of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.
