Mr. Charles Lee Hammonds, Sr. "Charlie Rock" was born on July 28, 1942 to the late Clarence & Julia Hammonds. He departed this earthly life on Monday, June 21, 2021. Charles attended the Guilford County School System and graduated from James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC. Charles was an avid sportsman. He played basketball, baseball, football as well as semi-pro baseball in Mount Tabor, NC. Charles worked several years Sears Roebuck and later retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company after 27 years of employment. He also worked over 15+ years at the Caldcleugh Multicultural Center in Greensboro, NC, mentored youth in sports and life skills. Charles was a member of From Brokenness to Wholeness Healing and Deliverance Ministry, Pastor Antionette & Co- Pastor Ricky Waddell. Charles is proceeded in death by his Parents, Clarence & Julia Hammonds, Loving Wife, Barbara Posey Hammonds and Grandson, Michael Hammonds, Jr. Those left to cherish his memories are Sons: Tony Posey, Gerald Hammonds, Charles Lee Hammonds, Jr., Michael Hammonds & Gary "Yusef" Hammonds (Sonia) all of Greensboro, NC and Ronnie Hammonds (Tonia) of Kernersville, NC; Daughters: Rosalyn Posey & Antoinette Waddell (Ricky) of Greensboro, NC; Sisters-in-Law, Joyce Posey Elliott (Jeff), Betty Posey & Sharon Posey, all of Greensboro, NC; Brother-in-Law, Jerome Posey of Greensboro, NC; 29-Grandkids, 45-Great Grandkids; a Special Son-in-Law, Ricky; Nephews & Nieces; Great Nephews & Great Nieces; Cousins and a host of Family Members, Friends, and surrounding Neighbors.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 3pm-6pm in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. A service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. The visitation will begin at 12:30pm and the service will follow at 1:00pm. Burial Forest Lawn Cemetery.
