Charles Edward Burns, III (PJ) was born on September 13, 1994 in Portales, New Mexico to military parents, Charles Edward Burns, Jr. and Candi Rae (Joy) Burns. He moved frequently making friends easily. Charles spent the majority of his formative years in New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming where he learned to love and serve the Lord and His people through singing, dancing, and children's ministry at his home church, King Solomon Baptist Church of Colorado Springs. He loved to play basketball and football; he loved to sing at every opportunity, in and out of school. Charles moved to North Carolina the summer before his junior year of high school where he attended Charles B. Aycock HS. While attending he participated in chorus and was awarded his varsity letter in football. Charles attended the University of North Carolina, Greensboro where he graduated and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English in May of this year. He pledged the Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in his sophomore year. Charles served as Secretary his junior year and President of the local chapter his senior year. Charles' smile and big personality filled the room! He was known for his warm hugs, a random song lyric, uplifting word, and for making people feel noticed and special. Charles leaves behind to celebrate his life: his father, Charles E. Burns, Jr. (NC); mother, Candi (Rodney) Thompson (CO); brother, Camren E. Burns (NC); uncle, Jason (Laurie) Joy (ND); auntie, Jeannette Allison (George) Arroyo (NC); paternal grandparents, Charles and Mary Burns (NC); maternal grandparents, Paul and Mardell Joy (WY); cousins Shauna Guyton, Kaiya and Jordan Arroyo (NC), Jarrett, Reed, and Derek Joy (ND). Also, the members of the Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and a host of family and friends. Mr. Charles Edward Burns III died on Friday, June 3, 2016. A service honoring the life of Mr. Burns will take place on Friday, June 10, 2016 at New Jerusalem Cathedral; 1822 Sharpe Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27406. The visitation will begin at 2:30 pm and the service will follow at 3:30 pm.
