Obituary

Carrie McCain Pettiford, the daughter of the late Nathan Herman and Hattie Gaither McCain went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Guilford Health Care Center.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alphonso Pettiford, brothers, Clinton, Paul, George, Nathan, Jr. and Roy McCain, sisters, Hattie Seagers, Annie Bell Cauthern, Rosie Lee Rutledge, and Charity Harris.

Those left to celebrate her life are: One sister, Ruby McCain Troxler of Greensboro; Son William â??Billâ?? Pettiford of the home, daughter, Rev. Rubye McCain Reid (Rev. Paul), of Greensboro; three grandchildren: Paula Reid Smith (Darrell) of Fuquay Varina; Derek Gaither Reid, of Cincinnati, Ohio, William Pettiford, II, (Tenea) of Greensboro; seven great grandchildren, Darrell Smith, II, Andrea Smith, and David Smith, Brittany Reid, Simona Reid, Natalie Reid, Natalie Reid,  and Joelle Reid, one great, great grandchild, Harmoni Smith and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was a life-long, devoted member of United Institutional Baptist Church where she served for many years as a member the Senior Choir, a member of Ward Five, The Ever Ready Chorus and past president of the Philathea Class.

She was a cosmetologist for more than 60 years until her health declined. She loved people and never met a stranger. She greeted everyone she met with a smile and open arms eager to get to know them. Her childrenâ??s favorite question she would ask people she met was, â??Donâ??t I know you?â?? She will be remembered by her family for her love of â??Fellowshippingâ?? following Worship Service every Sunday, for her love for her family and the delicious meals she lovingly prepared for them every Sunday.

She was an active and devoted member of numerous professional organizations and served as the chaplain for several of them. She graduated from Maco Beauty College and was a member of the Maco Alumni Association, The North Carolina Beauticians and Cosmetologist Association, Inc, The Gate City Beauticians Association, Greensboro Chapter #3, The National Beauticultural League, The One More Effort Community Club and the Nu Phi Chapter of Alpha Chi Pi Omega Sorority.
