Obituary

Carolyn Ann Squirewell was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. Carolyn was born on June 13, 1945 in Spring Hope, North Carolina, and moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, as a young child. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Cooper and Irene Cooper Melton; step-father, Joseph Melton; daughter, Carolyn Ann Squirewell; and sibling, Celestine Cooper. Carolyn attended public school in Greensboro and was a graduate of James B. Dudley High School, class of 1963. On August 16, 1968, she married Roosevelt Squirewell. From their union came four children: twins, Victor and Vinson; Kevin; and Carolyn Ann. Carolyn was not a stranger to work, having worked in her husband's janitorial business, Cone Mills, Western Electric, Goodwill Industries and lastly, as a safety assistant/bus monitor for the public school system. She grew up in Mt. Zion United Church of God and was an active and devoted member for over sixty years. Using her talents, she served as a youth Sunday School teacher, usher and missionary. She was also a member of the church's Connection Group, the Women of Zion, and the Seasoned Saints. Despite her failing health, Carolyn continued to testify and give God praise for His blessings upon her life. She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss, her loving husband of 49 years, Roosevelt Squirewell; sons, Victor Brian Squirewell of Paterson, NJ, Vinson Ryan Squirewell of the home, and Roosevelt Kevin Squirewell (Arnita Hill) of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Demyiah Squirewell of Greensboro, NC; aunt, Ruth Cooper of Spring Hope, NC; special cousin, Ella Ree Arrington of Greensboro, NC and niece, Arlene Boateng. She also leaves behind her extended family who will miss her dearly: Joseph (Betty) Squirewell of Loganville, Georgia, Oscola (Leroy) Smith of Columbia, SC, Lula (Bernard) Sims of Durham, NC, James Squirewell of Greensboro, NC, Estelle Chappelle of Winnsboro, SC, Maurice L. Baker of Greensboro, NC, Deborah Squirewell of High Point, NC, Miriam (Larry) Irby of Winnsboro, SC, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A service honoring her life will be held at Mount Zion Church of God; 705 Banner Avenue; Greensboro NC, 27401 on March 24, 2018. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 1:30 pm. The interment will take following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N Ohenry Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27405.
