Obituary

CALVIN HIIWATHA MILLER was born November 11, 1949 in Guilford County to the late Cecil Calvin Miller and Ruth Morehead Miller. Attending the public schools in Greensboro, Calvin graduated from Walter Hines Page High School in 1968. He was a man of many gifts and talents. After graduating from high school, Calvin served the United States by enlisting in the US Air Force. There he served for more than a year, deploying to Vietnam where he was an air craft maintenance airman. Upon returning home from the Vietnam War, Calvin worked at P. Lorillard and the Greensboro Daily News, as one of its first African-American apprentice pressmen. For about a decade, Calvin was self-employed as a sub-contractor with Leon Roberts and Associates. In 1987 while living in Boston, Massachusetts Calvin received salvation by accepting CHRIST JESUS as his SAVIOR. He was a member of the Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church (Dorchester, MA), where he served under Pastor Irvin Witlow. During his time in Boston, Calvin was employed by Walter Fernald State School in Watertown, MA. Sensing a call on his life, Calvin recognized that it was not to a pulpit-Sunday-only ministry but rather a street ministry. He was affiliated with three different churches during this time (two in Boston and one in Providence, RI). Calvin returned to Greensboro, NC to help care for his ailing father, Cecil. He was re-united with his family and obtained employment at K-Mart, where he worked for almost thirteen years. Calvin became interested in motorcycles and classic cars/trucks. Following in his father's footsteps, he worked in construction. Calvin was generous with his skills, training and knowledge and enjoyed sharing with others. He was a member of the Bible Study Fellowship, Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation Volunteers, Disabled Veterans Network, Original Twelve Motor Cycle Club, L. Richardson Neighborhood Watch Association, AARP Lifetime Member, UNITE (K-Mart Distribution Center, Past President), American Legion Post 0267, and the Alzheimer's Association Volunteers. Calvin was predeceased in death by his father: Cecil Calvin Miller and brother: Preston Costello Miller. He leaves to cherish his loving memories children: Angela Yulethia Jones, Kevin Lamont Miller and Natasha Lynn Miller, mother: Ruth Morehead Miller, brother: Milton Morehead, sister: Jacqueline Miller, sister-n-law: Flontina Rogers Miller, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and great niece and great nephews, cousins and friends.
