She was born Blanch Dickens, in Chatham County, North Carolina on April 5, 1919 to Hayes and Bessie Dickens. Blanch was raised by her great grandmother, Sally E. Jacobs. She was married to Thomas Canty Jr. and to this union three children were born. Mrs. Spruill, years later, married Alphonso Spruill. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Canty Jr. and Alphonso Spruill; son, Melzo Canty and grandson, Shawn Foxworth. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Mrs. Spruill leaves behind her loving daughter and caregiver, Thomasina Canty Robbins (Richard);daughter, Marion Diane Foxworth; sister, Hazel Cadlettof Portsmouth, Virginia; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was truly loved and will be missed by her family.
