Obituary

Barbara A. Washington, 68, of Bear, DE, passed away September 20, 2014 peacefully at her home surrounded by her children. She spent her final days surrounded by her loved ones and faced cancer with faith, grace, great strength and courage. Barbara was born January 28, 1946 in Siler City, NC to the late Eugene and Virginia Walden. She graduated from Chatham High School in 1964. She was a dedicated woman of God, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and friend. Although she was terminally ill, her primary concern was that her family be saved so that they can one day join her in heaven. Barbara was a successful and highly motivated businesswoman. Her remarkable success was achieved with only a high school diploma. She spent many of her happiest times laughing with family and friends. She loved to travel the U.S. and abroad. She especially enjoyed watching comedy classics, Tyler Perry movies/plays, humming old Gospel songs and collecting crystal figurines. Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Barbette Scotton and Shirell Washington-Carney (Brian), Son Randy Washington (Janell), step-son Robert Hartwell (Val), five grandchildren Jastin, Jason, Randy II, Rondé, & Journey, sisterâ??s Jean Poole and Marjorie Walden, brother Jesse Walden and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Virginia Walden, daughter, Monica Scotton, Sisters Sammie Walden, Brenda Bagley, Doris Brown, Louise Cooper, Rosa Neal, Brothers Glen Walden, Curtis Joe Walden, Charles Walden and Wade Walden. A viewing will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Faith & Love Center Church, 8032 Thouron Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19150, where family and friends may visit between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. On October 1, 2014 a viewing will be held from 10 â?? 11 a.m., prior to the Funeral and Burial at Gloverâ??s United Church of Christ at 1460 Glovers Church Rd., Bennett, NC 27208. Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Barbara Ann Washington Memorial fund. Donations will be accepted at any TD Bank Branch by mentioning the above referenced fund.
