Barbara Lucretia Harris, born July 12, 1941 to the late Clyde and Roberta Wright Harris, the seventh of eight children, transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior on May 4, 2017. Barbara attended Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic School, James B. Dudley High School, Greensboro, N.C., (Class of 1959), and Huntington High School, Newport News, Virginia. She was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was employed by Prago-Guyes Clothing Store, Michaud Jewelers, and the High Point Furniture Market. She was a dedicated caretaker for her dear mother and her aunt. She spent years making sure that they were provided nourishment, safety, and comfort in their times of debilitation. She was a caring and loyal mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was active in her community and was a participant in the Community Watch Organization. She was blessed with superior strength and fortitude to have come through a series of illnesses over the years, but she never allowed these illnesses to detain her from showing and sharing her love, her generosity, and her time to her family and friends. Her door was always open to those in need. Her cheerful voice and her delightful smile warmed the hearts of those who knew her. Her thoughtfulness and her kindness were immeasurable. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, her daughter, Carrie Jermaine Hicks, Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Jillian Hicks, Houston, Texas, Cameron and Merritt Hicks, Raleigh, NC; sister, Joyce Carol Harris, Greensboro, NC; brother, Dr. John Clifton Harris, New York City; brothers in-law, Marvin Starks and Jerry Watkins, Greensboro, NC.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and best friend, Davetta Florance-Bristow. She will be truly missed by all. Sisters, Mae Norris Starks, Gwendolyn White, Dorothy Williams, Elizabeth Watkins, and Lenora Tony predeceased her. The Celebration of Life will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1414 Gorrell Street, Greensboro, NC, on Saturday, May 13, 2017, with visitation and viewing at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00, and the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to the American Diabetes Association. Perry J. Brown Funeral Home is assisting the family.
