Arthur Walter Long, Jr. passed away early Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Gainesville, FL. Born June 19, 1929, Arthur was the youngest of three to Arthur Sr. and Lillian Bailey Long in Greensboro. He was reared and educated in Pittsboro.A devoted family man for life, truck driver by trade, a fisherman at heart, Arthur founded Long's Home for the Aged with his beloved wife, Fannie, in 1965. Although his oldest sister died early, he adored his sister Florence. Arthur's pitching ability earned him an opportunity to play professional baseball, which he rejected in favor of caring for his sickly mother. Survived by devoted wife, Fannie Aston Long; children: Shelia Rhodes (Lewis), Gainesville, FL, Arthur Long III (Helen), Greensboro, Christopher Long (Bob), Lyndhurst, NJ, Aaron Long (Crystal), Mobile, AL. Six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. Visitation is at 12 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015; the funeral is at 1 p.m. at 1804 East Market Street SDA Church.
