Archie Thomas
Lynch, Sr.
May 24, 1956 — May 16, 2026
Archie Thomas Lynch, Sr. was born on May 24, 1956, in Louisburg, North Carolina. He was the fourth of ten children born to the late John and Magnora Lynch.
Archie was raised in Newport News and Hampton, Virginia. He graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton, Virginia, where he was a standout member of the basketball team. He later attended Hampton University and Essex College in New Jersey.
Archie eventually made his home in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he dedicated more than 36 years of service to supporting hearing-impaired students and adults, as well as individuals with other disabilities in a variety of academic and church settings. He particularly loved teaching sign language to individuals, schools, churches, and colleges throughout the Piedmont. He looked forward to sharing sign language with youth and adults alike at many vacation Bible schools in the area. His work reflected his compassionate spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Willie Lynch; and his sisters, Carletta Lynch Gatling and Bernetta Lynch Mitchell.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, Cheryl Dobbin Lynch; his sons, Archie Thomas Lynch, Jr. (Tiffany) of High Point, North Carolina and Deontae Carter of Bainbridge, Georgia; and his two granddaughters, Audri Belle and Blaire Marie, who brought himimmense joy. He is also survived by his siblings: Dwight Lynch of Greensboro, North Carolina; Venita Lynch Alukwu (Maxwell) of Joppa, Maryland; Wayne Lynch of Chesapeake, Virginia; Timothy Lynch (Latonya) of Grand Prarie, Texas; and Sandra Lynch of Hampton, Virginia. He also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Archie’s passions included his family, sports — especially basketball — music of all kinds, serving as an interpreter within the deaf community, and a good meal.
A member of Providence Baptist Church, Archie faithfully served there as an interpreter for the deaf ministry for more than 25 years. His dedication, commitment to the deaf community, and infectious spirit touched countless lives, and he will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
