Archie Barksdale was an only child born to Isadore Barksdale in Brooklyn, New York. Due to her death, at an early age he lived with various family members. During his teenage years, he moved in with Leroy and Willette Barksdale and their daughter, Elizabeth. Archie attended Dudley High School and was in the Class of 1955. He served four (4) years in the United States Air Force with a concentration in Craft Control and Warning. Studying at the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA), Southern University, Baylor University with special training in labor relations, success motivation and top quality management. For over thirty (30) years, he worked as Shop Steward for Long Beach Naval Shipyard Pipe Fitters and later developed a career in selling life insurance. Shortly, after retirement, Archie enjoyed assisting in political elections, starting programs that would benefit others, and "At Risk Youth". Upon returning to North Carolina, he joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church and became active in many organizations and served on the Board of Directors. Archie leaves to cherish his memory, son: Marlon Barksdale; granddaughter: Morea Anise Barksdale; first cousin: Melvyna McPherson; a devoted cousin: Odessa B. Long; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special friend: Linda Aldridge. A service honoring his life will be held at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church; 408 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Greensboro, NC 27406 on Monday, February 12, 2018. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 10:30 am. The interment will take place following the service at Salisbury National Cemetery; 202 Government Rd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
