Alvone A. Courts entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, NC. Alvone was born January 12, 1942 in Guilford County to the late Ben Courts and Rachel Edwards. He was the 8th born to this union. He attended the St Mary's Catholic school and served as an altar boy. After graduating from the Catholic school, he entered James B. Dudley where he served as the Editor of the Panthers Claw and graduated in 1959. Mr. Courts served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged in February 1966. He then attended NC A&T State University studying History. He briefly worked at Cone Mills before earning a position at the US Post Office from which he retired with 40 years of total federal service in 2003. He was an avid reader and history buff ready to broach any subject from World Wars to the plight of Black Americans. He was also a passionate sports fan particularly about baseball, which he enjoyed playing as a youth, and his beloved Redskins! He was a soft spoken gentleman, a good husband, father and supporter of his family. Alvone was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Willie, Napoleon, Howard, and Perry, and sisters Gwendolyn and Marva. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn H. Courts, son Keith Hudson (Kathy) of Leland NC, daughter Janice C. Gaddy (Melvin III) of Durham NC; three sisters, Ernestine Robertson, Baltimore MD, Ardelia Mathews, and Armentha Moragne, Greensboro NC, five grandchildren, Kynan Hudson, Whitsett NC, Kendal Hudson, Rocky Mount, NC, Melvin Gaddy IV, Durham NC, Kayla Hudson, Tallahassee FL, Justin Gaddy, Raleigh NC; and one great grandchild, Kadence Hudson, Whitsett NC, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
