Rev. Albert Carl 'A.C.' Winfield, 90, of Greensboro went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Wesley Long Hospital. He was born May 19,1928 in Monroe, NC to the late Rev. Albert Washington Winfield and Irene Caudle Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harold Maceo Winfield. He attended Winchester High School in Monroe. He received his BA degree from Livingstone College, in Salisbury, NC. He also received his MA from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC. He also attended Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, NC. He taught history and psychology at Page High School and retired from the Greensboro Public Schools in 1990. He served as pastor of Mount Moriah Circuit (Mount Arafat), Richburg, SC; Cedar Grove and Reaves Chapel, Concord District; Union Chapel, Albermarle, NC; Sneed Grove, Ellerbe, NC; Cedar Grove, Salisbury District; Smyres Chapel, Catawba, NC; Troy Chapel, Troy, NC; Bennettsville, Norwood, NC; New Zion, Robbins, NC; Pleasant Hill, Candor, NC, and Hood Chapel, Biscoe, NC until 2008. Rev. Winfield is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Mary Scotton Winfield; a son, A. Carl Winfield II (wife Shelia), grandaughters Joy Winfield and Hope Winfield; grandson Albert Carl Winfield III; sister Esther Allen of Monroe, NC; brother Robert Winfield (wife Fatima) of Baltimore, MD; nieces Barbara, Cynthia, Brenda, Michelle, Medra, nephews Julius, Toby, Arthur, Jimmy and Robert; as well as a host of other family and friends including the Scotton and Russell families.
A memorial service to celebrate his life and homegoing will be on Thursday, September 6 at 12 at Trinity AME Zion Church in Greensboro, preceded by visitation at 11:30 at the church. Perry J. Brown Funeral Services is assisting the Winfield family.
